Miss Terris May crowned Miss Cinderella 2019

The Junior Civic League of Youngstown crowned Terris May Miss Cinderella 2019 during its 64th Annual Cinderella Ball Gala on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center. This year's theme was “One Moment In Time.”

The court includes: 1st Attendant Quiazia Reynolds, Valley Christian High School, escorted by Scott Gregory, Campbell Memorial High School and 2nd Attendant Acacia Anderson, Youngstown Early College, escorted by Kyree Morgan, Struthers High School.

Terris is the daughter of Melissa Lawson and Terry May. Her grandparents are Anna Lawson, the late Ervin Lawson, Francine May and the late Ulysses May. Terris attends Chaney High School and Choffin Career & Technical Center. Terris is a member of Zion Dominion of Youngstown. Her honors and activities include: Chaney Girls Basketball, Cheerleading, Honor Roll, 2 Varsity Letter Awards and Employee of the Month. Terris plans to attend college (undecided) and become a Pediatrician. Her favorite motivational quote is: “There’s no such thing as a life that’s better than yours”. – J Cole. She was presented by her father and gave her flowers to her mother. Her escort was Derrick Anderson, II.

Five Debutantes were presented during the Gala, along with their escorts who represent high schools in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. The Debutantes were: Acacia Anderson, Youngstown Early College; Zion Jones (Honorary Debutante, granddaughter of sustaining member, Mrs. Nancy Murray), Liberty High School; Monica Lambert, Chaney High School; Terris May, Chaney High School; and Quiazia Reynolds, Valley Christian High School.

Their Escorts were: Kyree Morgan, Struthers High School; Christian Scissum, Youngstown Early College; Marquan Herron, Chaney High School; Derrick Anderson II, Boardman High School; Scott Gregory, Campbell Memorial High School and Kyler Morgan, Struthers High School will serve as Page.

Miss Cinderella 2018, Kaia Anderson, also was in attendance and spoke to those assembled as she captivated the 400 guests with her comments. The Michael Austin Project provided music and entertainment as the guests danced until the conclusion of the Gala. The Junior Civic League’s next fundraising event is the 9th Annual Mardi Gras, on February 29, 2020 at 6:00pm at Avion on the Water.

The Junior Civic League Scholarship Program was developed to support qualified African-American students seeking higher education, and has awarded more than $650,000 in scholarships. The Annual Cinderella Ball is the sole fundraising event for the scholarship fund.

The 64th Annual Cinderella Ball Chairperson was Sylvia Rupert, Co-Chair, Tammie Cooper, and JCL President is Jenita J. Gillespie. The Junior Civic League is currently accepting applications for the 2020 65th Annual Cinderella Ball. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2020.
